It' funny how the Americans in this thread still disrespect Calzaghe and are already making excuses for Jones before the fight saying crap like "ohh too old", "5-10 years ago different story", yet if he wins the same people will say "calzaghe has always been overated, Jones is a legend, still has what it takes", so Calzaghe is in a lose lose situation.
If he does win however, you guys will say Jones is a hasbeen, past it, but 10 years ago he would have beat him, and you call yourselves boxing fans?. Being biased is one thing but to knock a guy who has beaten everybody and hasn't lot a fight since he was 14 is beyond me. He is a legend most people know it, deal with it.
If you guys knew anything about the game you would know that 10 years ago a Calzaghe Vs Jones fight would have been a very close one, just as this one will be, Jones might have won back then, but it would have been close, but this total disrespect for Calzaghe a legend is just typical jealousy because he isn't American. Like I said before, Lacy's and Kessler's face really looked like it had been slapped didn't they?.
One last thing people use the age thing, Calzaghe is past it too, he is 36, Jones 39, not like there is a massive difference.

i think roy jones has alot of instant snap and speed that joe doesnt have where as joe uses fast combination his a to b speed is pretty average.
thing is roy hasnt got the legs that he used to and sits on the ropes which joe will def take advantage of.
joes koes have come from attrition and accuracy not form a one solid shot. his left hand is good but to ko guys he has to swing it like a bat to hurt them and against any verison of roy jones that is foolish.
calzaghe ud with roy jones stelaing a few rounds.

UGGGH.....Nigel Benn let me break it down for you. While i do think that calzaghe is an exceptional fighter at this time I do not think that his resume is any better than lets say a winky wright, who has faught and beaten (without contreversy) way more credible fighters than Slappy has, who by the way should have 2 L's beside his name. Secondly coming up in the 90s two of my favourite fighters alongside Hopkins and tyson were Lennox Lewis and Prince Naseem Hamed so I find your allegation of me being biast towards Euro fighters flabergasting. While I do consider Calzaghe and elite fighter and admire his hard work, his style of boxing if you can call it that reminds me of the time i was wandrening through the woods and was swarmed by 100s of mosquitos, which led to me throwing more slaps then anyone has in a minuete. Bottom line calzaghe is a slapper and it turns many hardcore boxing fans like myself off. Be that as it may Roy Jones jr. is going down tonite, sadly because he is SHOT TO BITS and calzaghe isn't.
PS. Calzaghe would have not only been dominated by Roy 10 years ago, he would have been humiliated by him, and probably KTFO in the process. If you think calzaghe would have had a close fight 10 years ago with any chance of him winning the you my friend are what us American call a NUTHUGGER... sorry to say that Nigel since I have tremendous respect for you but it is true.

Roy Jones depended on his youth too much he just cant do what he used to anymore.
The only way I see him winning the fight is if he catches Joe with a big punch. Otherwise i'd say Joe will win every round and get the decision.

He is in a loss-loss situation for sure, but what can he expect ? Jones was koed 2 times and losing a decision..then he bounces back with a few wins against mediocre opponents. Hardly the Jones, that was considered p4p the best fighter, from 7 years ago.
I dont know what happened and why the fight didnt happen at that time but it doesnt matter now.
Any top HW will prop beat Roy Jones now, and he is not even in the top 30 of p4p anymore. It's not biased to claim that this fight has totally lost any importance that it once had, and beating rjj now does not elevate calzaghe to legend status.
Does RJJ have a greater resume than cal ? For sure, he fought Hopkins and James Toney when they were prime. Calzaghe has never beaten anyone on that level and who was still at top of their game.
It seems like he dont want to take too many risk, which is ok, but now he cant claim to have had a very interresting and great carreer.
Biggest names on his record are Hopkins (old), Mikkel Kessler (same e as himself, overprotected and had never beaten anyone good) and Lazy (never good, very inexperienced). Did he ever beat someone at the level of Duran, Hearns, James Toney ? Maybe these kind fights never happen for whatever , but because they didnt, he cannot be mentioned in the same breath as these guys.

Couldn't have said it better myself Mikkel, a great post. Calzaghe is good, but when everything is said and done down the road James Toney, Roy Jones, and Bernard Hopkins will all be remembered as being on a level higher than Calzaghe when their resumes are taken into account.

I just saw RJJ vs Prince something (I think his latest fight) and it changed my view on him. He looks fresh again and his speed and combos are very good. I give him a good chance to beat Calzaghe.
