...light middle!!!!!! james toney was a natural 180 pounder it was hard enough for him to make super middlewieght
what about middlewieght?
both are the same hieght 5'9
my personall feeling is that if ray fought toney at middlewiehgt BUT was in his prime it would be a shut out. leonard was notoriously quick in hand and foot and rleied on his instincts and boxing basics.
james toney on the other hand is a counterpuncher pure counterpuncher with a right hand and left hook that will make you respect him. he can counter anythingthat leonard throws but leonard is to savy to get knocked out and is to active and has a far higher workrate than toney could ever produce.
a leonard win james wins some rounds by countering and making ray miss and get hit when ray tries to out muscle him but ray cant out muscle him and will revert to a joy jones style of staying outside throwing 4 hit combo's then out and move away
james is to lathargic to catch up
it's a shame though becuase james is a dman good fighter and can beat up many middle super middle light heavyies cruisers and even fully fledged heavywieghts
if you try to out muscle him like barkley jirov your going to get your arse kicked. ray i think has too many tools and talent to not get caught up in a fight but more in a boxing match which he will excel in.

toney is so overrated in my opinion. even as a middle..
ray would tear him up, way too fast

aww dont pick on james he was a great counterpuncher an d had the abilty ot be the best he was just lathargic which slowed him down and just he didnt let his hands go unless he really wanted to ...at supermiddlewieght i think james was at his peak form. his destruction of barkley was horrendous 3 hit combo's for the 1st 3 rounds then 5 hit combo's just for the hell of it.
at any wieght he is dangerous but ray leonard (who i feel is massively overated) was a great welter and peaked rather early but he just got slower and slower and his old techniques wernt working.
at super middlewieght toney would beat him up double time becuase of ray's slower moves and combo's that wouldnt work for his frame i think toney would win by ud easy. but at middlewieght topney was anorexic he just dsidnt eat jus to make wieght thats not right man when a guy who is a natural 180-190 pounder is sweating himself down to middlewieght is unbefuckinleivable

hes like boxa in 2d except he has alot more offensive ability when he wants it lol but when u try to be offensive boxa u lose almost everytime
I think its hard to be very offensive when your so use to counter punching well being effective on ur offense when you use to countering.
Toney had the ability to be great offensivly but didnt take much chances which is respectable and had great defence.

lol its funny when you try to pick on my style even though i beat you every time (even when being offensive
you compare me to a poor James Toney - ill compare you to a John Ruiz -slow, fat and ugly

thats fair enough, you have the knowledge to back yourself up and i respect your opinion.
You've got a point, take away leonards speed (at super mid) and the match would be very different. If it was at middle i agree that ray would tear him apart.
ray may be overrated but he was a smart boxer. his movement and speed countering is much more effective than toney's draw em in counterpunching.
toney was good, but ray was great. bad matchup with the weight difference though, but pound for pound ray is stronger.

John ruiz rofl seems like u aint fought my new style yet lol and ur style is something like james its about countering and when you try to be offensive you dont do well thats all i was saying im not picking on ur style lol ive beat u a few times but it does annoy me when you jus stand there doing nothin intil i throw something lol if i didnt get annoyed as much with it i think i wud win more.
My point is james toney was ok in offense too when he wanted it and he had great defense which is gd for a counter puncher.
Sugar ray cud not knock out james toney because of his defense but he wud ud him because of his sick combos and hand speed.

ray's defence was far inferiore to james's defence rays dfence wasa to move and didge look how he got tagged by hearns in the rematch and terry norris...he lost his abilty to dodge and move was limted for being heavier and older
rays defence wasnt anyhign to sneaze at
