Paul Dion's "UFC Top Fighter Guide" For MMA Dummies
Lightweight
I see BJ Penn dominating at 155lbs for a long time and staying champion. I believe the only other guys that pose a slight threat to him in the division are Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez. KenFlo is no joke...he looks like Ben Stiller but he is a great fighter who fights intelligently. Sanchez was a top fighter at Welterweight but got beat down by other talented fighters that were naturally bigger guys...so he moved down in weight to 155...now he is the larger guy...if you put two talented fighters against each other...and they both are pretty even on paper...the naturally bigger, stronger guy, will most likely win. So I see Sanchez being deadly at 155!
My Top 3:
1. BJ Penn
2. Kenny Florian
3. Diego Sanchez
Welterweight
Georges St.Pierre will be champion in this division for a long time. Mark my words. He is an absolute beast...a total athlete and excellent fighter. I don't see anyone coming close to him at 170lbs. However other fighters that I rate highly at 170lbs are Thiago Alves and Jon Fitch. I don't see any of them beating GSP though.
My Top 3:
1. GSP
2. Thiago Alves
3. Jon Fitch
Middleweight
One name. Anderson Silva. He is rated by many as pound for pound the best MMA fighter in the world. I'm not sure I rate him number 1 pound for pound but he is in my top 3. He is the most dominant champion at the moment...nobody at 185lbs can beat him... my "future" star in middleweight division is Demian Maia (remember the name). He is an absolute MASTER at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has a semi-decent stand up game...he is decent in the clinch...and he is an absolute genius on the ground. The only other great fighter at middleweight is Dan Henderson. He isn't really the future though because he is a veteran...but he is a beast with knockout power in both hands.
My Top 3:
1. Anderson Silva
2. Demian Maia
3. Dan Henderson
Light Heavyweight
Now this is tough. The division is STACKED with amazing fighters. Right now the champ is Rashad Evans...and rightfully so. I underestimated him in the past...but after knocking out Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffen he won by respect. I love Quinton "Rampage" Jackson but I have to rate Rashad as number 1 right now...because he is so explosive and has excellent movement and agility...with knockout power too. Rampage is just an all out powerhouse with KO power in both hands...he rarely kicks or takes down his opponent...Mikkel will like Rampage because I think he is most like a boxer than any other fighter at 205lbs. He just uses his top boxing ability throughout most of the fight...looking for a knockout. I believe the best up-and-comer has to be Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida...he is like a true ninja on his feet...similar to Rashad Evans...but BETTER footwork and elusiveness. He would probably beat Rampage in a fight because he would be able to hit and run...using his superior footwork to escape Rampages power punches. The only other stand out that could challenge for the title is Forrest Griffin in my opinion.
My Top 3:
1. Rashad Evans
2. Lyoto Machida
3. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
Heavyweight
Brock Lesnar. His sheer size and strength will be hard to overcome...because he is a good fighter and a world class wrestler too...so it's not just a "big guy"...it is a "big guy who can fight"...very dangerous! He is the champion and I think it will stay that way for quite some time...he is ever improving too. Frank Mir is scheduled to fight him next...he beat him the first time because he caught him in a submission...even though Brock dominated the entire fight...I guarantee this wont happen next time...Brock will smash Mir into lala land. Shane Carwin is new to the game, even though he is old at 34...but his power is IMMENSE...I mean...all his fights have ended in round 1...he has amazing knockout power and recently knocked out Gonzaga with a short right punch...he has a very good chin too because Gonzaga caught him twice on the chin..HARD..and he managed to shake it off. He is an up-and-comer to look out for...remember the name...Shane Carwin! Ok next up...another up-and-comer...but he is younger...Cain Velasques..insiders who work in training camps say this guy is a BEAST...he works so hard and has amazing cardio..he can knock out anyone too..top wrestler also...I think he is future champ...mark my words. Frank Mir also deserves a mention as he beat Brock Lesnar and Minotauro Nogueira recently. Cheik Kongo also deserves a shout out!
My Top 3:
1. Brock Lesnar
2. Frank Mir
3. Shane Carwin
So there it is...I hope you like the post and take an interest in MMA. More specifically the UFC. Remember the guys I picked are just my opinion.

A few comments. I wouldn't say GSP is unbeatable. Alves has a great chance at defeating him. Let's not forget that GSP lost to Serra of all people not too long ago. Yes, it was a fluke, but it proved that St. Pierre's punch resistance isn't that great.
Don't believe what Dana White says about Silva being #1 in the world P4P. Until he loses, that title belongs to Fedor, a non-UFC fighter. Dana just wants to say he (UFC) has the best fighter in the world but he's wrong.
Fedor is the best heavyweight in the world and the best P4P fighter, period.

I agree to what you say Barack...but my money will still be on GSP when they fight...Alves has a chance...but GSP will be too good for him in my eyes!
I rate Anderson Silva at #2 or #3 in the pound for pound list. I agree with Fedor at #1.
My P4P Top 3:
1. Fedor
2. Anderson Silva
3. GSP
Maybe GSP should be #2 ... but not so sure... Either way I rate these guys in my top 3 pound for pound.

That's what my list looks like. I agree that Silva and GSP are interchangeable, although I'd rate Silva at #2 since he hasn't lost in the UFC, unlike St. Pierre.

Id like to see GSP step up in weight and fight Anderson Silva, what a fight would that be! Both are very athletic and Anderson Silva has such a great timing.
I have about 50 DVD´s of the UFC. I especially like the early ones, where a boxer faces a Ji Jitsu fighter etc. Now they are all some well rounded in all disciplines.
I agree with Obama, Fedor is the best P4P. Too bad Dana can´t sign him up. Have you guys seen the fight where Anderson Silva gets caught in a flying scissor heel lock? see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=267i7rKeECA

I've seen all of his pro MMA fights.
I even have DVD's from the early 1990's called "Extreme Fighting"...it's the brand before the UFC officially started to get big...the early 90's. Fighters such as Mario Sperry and "Conan" fight in it...take a look at Conan destroy his opponent:

This guy was a beast back then...I sometimes see him in the corner for some current Brazilian fighters fighting today!

GSP is so ridiculously talented. I rate him ahead of Anderson because I think that Anderson isn't all what he's cracked up to be. I wouldn't be shocked if he was upset by Thales Leites. As for Alves, he's tremendously talented as well, but GSP will control him and wear him down for 5 rounds(or as much as Alves can take) and defeat him. GSP's conditioning is insane, he didn't even get tired in the Fitch or Penn fight.

The original UFCs were so brutal. Remember when the only thing that wasn't allowed was eye gouging? That means your hair and nutsack were game. lmfao

UFC would be great if they stand all the time and fight with punches and kicks. But most of the fights i watched...2-3 seconds on the feet and then boom both are falling to the ground and do some Sumo-shit or whatever on the ground. I was very dissapointed most time i watched it. Its still better than this Show-Shit Wrestling...but the real deal is still boxing. And right after boxing i see martial arts...then long time nothing...and then UFC. I think UFC is something for the little kids which likes Wrestling. LMAO. No Offense

Dude...youtube some of these names and watch them fight:
1. Rampage Jackson
2. Mirko Cro Cop
3. Shane Carwin
4. Rich Franklin
5. Wanderlei Silva
Seriously search some fight's on the internet involving these people...they like the stand-up range and have lethal striking ability.
If you like wars...try watching the Rampage vs Wanderlei TRILOGY!
